This project we had to learn how to printmake. Printmaking is the process of making artworks by printing, normally on paper. Printmaking normally covers only the process of creating prints that have an element of originality, rather than just being a photographic reproduction of a painting.
Below is my artist statement and to the side a picture of my piece Sunset By: Jeremy Ong Subject: This print is important to me because of how I painted the sunset and made it fade. I personally think the sunset is a beautiful gift produced to us by mother nature herself. I enjoy how I printed my design onto the paper and how it turned out. I like how the colors blended and it made a really abstract and cool background. It looks as if the sun is setting behind but on the crevices of the mountain at the same time. This is important to me because I like the mountains and how they look. They also make my thoughts fresh and renewing. Symbolism: I chose a mountain because everything in the mountains are different. The tranquility, the air pressure, pretty much every aspect of life. Your perspectives are changed and all your worries seem to go away. I chose to do those colors on my piece because like I mentioned, I enjoy sunsets. This represents the meaning of my print because both are things I like. Not only are they both beautiful things but I feel as if they have similar effects to my mind. Design process: I designed my piece the way I did because the original way I wanted to carve it would make the image seem very simplistic and empty. It would just be a few lines symbolizing the mountains. Instead I carved out the lines in order for more of the image to exist. For this piece I had a blend of the colors red, orange, and yellow. I let my paint dry then I took my print and printed my print on top of that. I used the technique of persistence. This print took many tries but eventually I got it to look how I wanted it to look. |
