College Trip
The college trip was a good use of my time for the beginning of the week. THe tour consisted of 4 colleges, Chapman, UCSB, Cal Poly SLO, and UC Merced. All these colleges had something unique about them, Chapman is a private university, UCSB has a great campus and location, Cal Poly SLO has amazing weather as well as an amazing rec center with the additional outstanding business program. UC Merced is a small college in hopes to expand and have more students and make a name for itself. Overall, the college trip was tons of fun and very informational.
This experience has made me consider going to college not to close to home. I like home but I also liked being away from my parents because of all the independence and freedom you get. You also just become more independent and well groomed since there isn’t anyone you can fall back on. It's much like burning all your previous bridges and trying to fend for yourself. I feel like I would not enjoy driving long distances home if I do it often. I feel like if I do it not frequently but during breaks and things like that I would enjoy it much more. I did not really like being immersed in a different environment since I felt so out of touch with the rest of the world especially at UC Merced which seems to literally be on a farm. Like I mentioned, I did enjoy taking care of myself since I enjoy being independent.
I am mostly looking forward to living the college life. Being able to go to class then go back to my dorm to relax, study then go back. I am also excited to just be on my own or with a roommate and not with a parent because of the independence and getting to make my own decisions and knowing what I need. Basically being an independent young adult. I am most concerned for my education during college. I have heard that college is very hard which is a given, but also that people who are straight A students drop out during the first semester because they cannot handle the workload and pressure. I am very interested in studying abroad. I think studying abroad is a good way to become more familiar with different cultures and being able to adapt in unfamiliar situations. I also think it'll just be pretty neat to go someone else in the world to study something, from a new environment to new people.
I did not hear any clubs or organizations I personally would be interested in joining. I think that is something I will handle and think about when I go to college. However some side classes I would be interested in would be the surfboard shaping class at Cal Poly SLO as well as club sports if I feel like I have the time. I am interested in going to either UCLA, UCSC, Cal Poly SLO, TCU, Point Loma Nazarene, University of San Francisco, UCSD, USC, USD, SDSU, as well as a few others.
As of now I think I will be staying in-state, however in a different part of California. I want to get to live the college life as well as stay close to home so I can come home on breaks.
