What we did during this project was carve a certain design then take ink and print it onto a 4x6 paper. Printmaking is the process of making artworks by printing, normally on paper. Printmaking normally covers only the process of creating prints that have an element of originality, rather than just being a photographic reproduction of a painting.
First we started out our print making by creating a design that we wanted to make. We made multiple drafts, and after we found something we were happy with. With my print, I personally tried to use some kind of symbolism, like to show some kind of calmness within craziness. We took that print and transferred it to the soft block. We used mod podge to transfer it. Then we took carving tools and used them to carve out the negative space for our stamp. After that ,we made our first proof with block printing ink and started making small edits to improve the stamps quality. To make the prints, we used block printing ink and used a brayer to spread it on plexi glass to smooth it out. After we got our stamp perfect, then we started trying new stamp techniques like chine colle and a la poupee. I personally really liked the hand-coloring technique, because of felt like I had more control of how my print was going to turn out.
Sunset

Subject:
This print is important to me because of how I painted the sunset and made it fade. I personally think the sunset is a beautiful gift produced to us by mother nature herself. I enjoy how I printed my design onto the paper and how it turned out. I like how the colors blended and it made a really abstract and cool background. It looks as if the sun is setting behind but on the crevices of the mountain at the same time. This is important to me because I like the mountains and how they look. They also make my thoughts fresh and renewing.
Symbolism:
I chose a mountain because everything in the mountains are different. The tranquility, the air pressure, pretty much every aspect of life. Your perspectives are changed and all your worries seem to go away. I chose to do those colors on my piece because like I mentioned, I enjoy sunsets. This represents the meaning of my print because both are things I like. Not only are they both beautiful things but I feel as if they have similar effects to my mind.
Design process:
I designed my piece the way I did because the original way I wanted to carve it would make the image seem very simplistic and empty. It would just be a few lines symbolizing the mountains. Instead I carved out the lines in order for more of the image to exist. For this piece I had a blend of the colors red, orange, and yellow. I let my paint dry then I took my print and printed my print on top of that. I used the technique of persistence. This print took many tries but eventually I got it to look how I wanted it to look.
