This project is based on love. We had to make love lanterns, this is where we interviewed people of different age groups, a senior citizen, adult couple and 3rd grader. The people in my group were Colin Vail and Elizabeth Tran. We worked together by collaborating and compromising. We also stayed on task and pushed ourselves to do the best we could. I think some ways I could possibly grow as a group member is by being interested or acting interested in something even when I’m not. Another way I think I could improve myself as a group member is by trying not to interrupt other people in the middle of their turn to speak even if I have something vital to inject into the conversation or planning.
In Humanities I learned that there are different types of love and ideas of beauty. For example, nowadays, the idea of beauty is tall, skinny, tan, curvy or muscular. But back in the olden days, the idea of beauty would be someone who is stubby. This is proving that this person is rich since they have a lot of food. How can you tell that they have a lot of food? Just look at their stomach. Something I learned reading Romeo and Juliet is that their love isn’t true love. This is something I have never really bothered to question or think about but since now we are digging into that question, I realize that their love is merely physical love/attraction. Throughout this project, I used my Humanities thinking by writing the essay based on the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare.
Something I learned in Physics would be learning about electricity and circuits and how to build one. I learned how to make the most simple circuit and how to make a circuit with a switch. I also learned that there are two different types of circuits. A parallel and series. A parallel circuit is a closed circuit in which the current divides into two or more paths before recombining to complete the circuit. Each load connected in a separate path receives the full circuit voltage, and the total circuit current is equal to the sum of the individual branch currents. A series circuit is a closed circuit in which the current follows one path, as opposed to a parallel circuit where the circuit is divided into two or more paths. In a series circuit, the current through each load is the same and the total voltage across the circuit is the sum of the voltages across each load. Throughout this project I used my Physics thinking by trying to build a circuit with trial and error. I also used my thinking by filling out the worksheet we were given on ohms which is a unit electricity is measured in.
In Engineering I basically learned the same things I learned in Physics along with a few different things. In Engineering we practiced making circuits and perfecting this skill. We also learned about different types of engineering and how we can observe an interview. We split the paper in four sections and in each sections there was a label on it. We would write down things that would match all these sections and we would also make some assumptions which helped us come up with our follow-up questions.
Exhibition was held on 10, March 2017 at the Charity Wings Arts and Craft Community Center. There were about 70 people in there for our exhibition including students. There was a talent show that was performed by us students. My group member did a dance called Butterfly to a K-Pop song called Butterfly. The place was really cramped but nothing fell and broke. Our final product was a 3rd grade drawing, a puzzle piece and two lanterns. We gave one of these lanterns to a Senior Citizen and the other was on exhibit at the Arts and Crafts center. I think for this project I would give myself and A or an A+ since did a lot of thing by myself, such as scheduling the adult interview which was sort of a pain since the interviewees kept rescheduling, the Adobe Illustrator files, which I worked on by myself. I also did my part of questions and planning the interviews. I was the one who asked a big chunk of the questions and came up with some on the fly since we flew through them in 15 minutes or so. While doing that I also took notes and found the important details that we needed to complete the piece we were doing for these people. I think I was the strongest in Oral Communication since like I said I asked a big chunk of questions while taking down notes. A trait I feel like I could improve in would be work ethic. Although I did a lot of the work, I feel like I could have done more if I had just felt interested in this topic.
